OVER 100 YOUTHS PARTICIPATE IN 'TANYA GOMEN' DISCUSSION WITH AHMAD SHABERY

KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 (Bernama) -- More than 100 tech-savvy youths participated in a #TanyaGomen programme with Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek here today, which provided an opportunity for the public to indulge in an informal discussion with the minister.
The hour-long programme amidst a relaxed atmosphere, hosted by Zan Azlee a 'New Media' journalist from Fat Bidin, was held at Platinum Sentral, KL Sentral.
Among interesting topics discussed were the direction of the country in providing faster and more efficient broadband services.
Ahmad Shabery said Malaysia is heading towards achieving a broadband speed of more than 25 mega bits per second (mbps) which would incur high cost and take some time to be implemented.
Another topic which gained much attention was on the charges of broadband services said to be high and not affordable among youths.
Ahmad Shabery announced that telecommunication companies (telcos) had agreed to reduce their broadband service charge to at least six percent of the original price to encourage the use of internet among the public.
He said the matter was decided after a series of talks with the telcos and the outcome would be officially announced within a month.
In addition, Ahmad Shabery stressed on the importance of a creating more talented workforce, especially from among young people in the creative content industry at the global level.
